The international certificate in occupational health & safety(igc)

The certificate program is an ideal introductory course for those interested in a career in health and safety as well as for managers and supervisors with health and safety responsibilities. The IGC course is of 80 hours duration with 53 hours of private study in three units.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

  • The basis of occupational health and safety and the barriers to good standards.

  • Ensuring health and safety in the workplace.

  • The role of the International Labour Organization (ILO) and International Labour Standards.

  • Safety management systems: Plan-Do-Check-Act, ILO-OSH and OHSAS18001.

  • Effective Health and safety policies.

  • The principles of internal and external audits.

  • Performing a health and safety review.

  • Setting a Safe System of Work in a range of working environments. Permit-To-Work system.

  • The organizational, individual and job factors that influence health and safety behavior.

  • Influencing a positive change in behavior at work.

  • Work-related upper lim disorders (WRULD's) and many other areas.

Award in health & safety at work 

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

The award level course is an introductory program focusing on the basic principles of health & safety including hazard prevention and risk assessment.It is ideally suited for managers, team leaders and supervisors as well as workers and operators. The course is of 24 hours duration.

Unit HSW1: Workplace safety foundations

  • The foundations of health and safety.

  • The responsibility for health and safety.

  • Health and safety risk assessment and control.

  • Hazards and controls associated with work equipment, working with electricity, manual handling and repetitive movement, hazardous substances and the working environments.
